Preface
When it comes to Texas summer, more and more people rely on the air conditioning units they have in their house, as the degrees keep reaching record highs year after year, even to the point of reaching nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit with very high humidity levels. However, scammers prey on that by selling air cooling units, touting the potential victim as “saving thousands over typical AC systems”, using the ambiguous AC acronym or even using the name Air Conditioner.

What is the deal with Air Coolers vs Air Conditioners?
Air coolers, also called swamp coolers, cool the air via evaporated water and blowing the cool air towards you. They are usually recommended for dry environments like in Phoenix or any region with low humidity. However, for places like Houston, these swamp coolers don’t do much due to the high humidity, reducing its effectiveness and adding more humidity. In addition, most swamp coolers require more maintenance such as replacing the water than regular air conditioning.
Air conditioners on the other hand cools the room by removing the hot and humid air from inside your room and transferring it outside, replacing the air with cooled air. Air conditioners provide the cool air by using the compressor to heat up the refrigerant, tranferring the heated refrigerant to cool down the coil, the fan blows the now cold coil and absorbs the warm air from the house, and finally dumps the warm air from the house to the outside, now giving the house some cool air. By removing the warm and humid air, this works better for humid environments like Houston (Carrier).
